Attachment + Giving Back
When a child is born, they are entirely dependent on their caregivers to meet their most basic needs: food, shelter, clothing, and sleep. But another fundamental need, often overlooked, is the sense of belonging, which comes through bonding and connection. This emotional bond is known as attachment.
Attachment forms when a caregiver consistently meets the emotional and physical needs of a child. A secure attachment helps a child develop a healthy sense of self, fostering their ability to connect with others throughout life. In contrast, insecure attachment can lead to difficulties in relationships, low self-esteem, anxiety, depression, and other emotional or behavioral challenges.
However, for some parents, meeting even the basic needs can be difficult due to financial instability. This is why it’s essential to support families, especially those preparing for the birth of a child, so they can focus on building a strong connection with their newborn without the added stress of resource scarcity.
Organizations like Stepping Stone in Charlottesville, Virginia, play a vital role in this effort. As a nonprofit, Stepping Stone provides families with the essentials they need to care for their child from the very beginning. They collect and distribute baby essentials—diapers, clothing, car seats, portable cribs, and more—ensuring that families can meet their child's needs right away.
This month, wellNESTva is running a diaper drive to support Stepping Stone's mission. National Diaper Awareness Week is September 23-29 but we will be collecting all month long. We invite you to contribute by dropping off diaper donations at 402 Anneslie Court, or contact us through our website to arrange for a pick-up.
Together, we can help ensure every baby gets the secure start they deserve.
